FAQs about the course
What is HARPS training?
HARPS (Harmonised Australian Retailer Produce Scheme) training helps fresh produce growers, packers, and suppliers understand and implement the food safety, legal, and trade requirements needed to supply major Australian retailers. The HARPS Version 2 training equips participants to meet the updated expectations and audit standards, using practical, produce-specific case studies.
What’s the difference between HARPS Element 4.1 and 4.2?
- Element 4.1 requires that each HARPS-certified site has a current and implemented HACCP-based Food Safety Program. This program must identify potential hazards and outline controls based on Codex principles.
- Element 4.2 specifies that at least one HACCP team member has completed HACCP training or refresher training within the last 3 years.Quality Associates’ optional HACCP Refresher Add-on fulfils this requirement and provides a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment (FBPFSY3002).
Do I need prior HACCP training to attend?
No prior HACCP training is required for the HARPS course itself. However, for the HACCP Refresher add-on, previous completion of a recognised HACCP course is assumed.
Does HARPS training help improve food safety?
HARPS training strengthens risk-prevention practices by giving teams practical tools to identify, control, and monitor food-safety hazards more effectively. It helps build consistent processes across the site, leading to safer products and fewer compliance issues.
Will HARPS training help reduce customer complaints?
HARPS training improves product quality by tightening controls around handling, traceability, and foreign-object prevention. These improvements reduce the types of issues that typically trigger retailer complaints and rejections.
